"Boxed Out" was a self-produced public access television series which platformed local community leaders to discuss housing and economic justice issues. Planned as a short term project on the local San Juan Islands television station in 2024, the focus of the series was to elevate housing issues in our small rural community.

Six episodes ultimately aired and while my time capacity was too limited to continue the series, CNL2 Media was very interested in doing so.
Episode 6: John Moalli, Sc.D, Board Chair of the San Juan Island Community Foundation, appears on Boxed Out to discuss the power of wealth to shape communities, the on-going evolution of philanthropy, and how solutions for affordable housing funded through private local resources can have some of the greatest impacts.
Episode 5: Interview with Lisa Byers (Executive Director) and Julie Brunner (Housing Director) of OPAL Community Land Trust, a leader in the national CLT movement, located on Orcas Island. This episode discusses the power of the CLT model, and the ways OPAL has risen to challenges over the years to create best practices that are being replicated all over the country.
Episodes 3 & 4 Features Lincoln Bormann, Executive Director of the San Juan County Conservation Land Bank, and discusses the intersection of affordable housing and environmental stewardship. The episode highlights our local REET tax, which has been nationally recognized as an innovative local effort to provide both housing and land conservation for all community members.
Pilot Episode (aired in 2 parts) interviews our frontline workers on housing: the local Family Resource Center who is the primary provider of our local social safety net. The episode explores the intersection of food security and affordable housing, and how affordable housing provides an anchor for self-actualization.
